Hamas’s Inhumanity A Caligula Thing?
Enjoy Noonan’s columns but her “October Horror Is [NOT] Something New.” Ignorance or ignoring of History by media & rest of us is astounding. If we can’t be honest about brutality against “civilians” in our past, how are we supposed to learn from it?
The WSJ’s Peggy Noonan is not alone in the “something new just happened” as fellow columnist Daniel Henninger also recently wrote a piece along the same lines. That is, that Hamas’s unexpected “savagery as strategy [was] surely calculated to elicit a particular response” and is “a new normal.” Yet, can’t anyone in leadership positions let alone in the MSM or academia not clearly see the long-standing precedents in human history for what Hamas did? Anyone ever hear of the thousands of Jews nailed by Romans onto Jerusalem’s walls? What do they call Caligua’s feeding early Christians to the lions or burning them as “Roman Candles” aka torches to light the streets? Or, the regular sackings of captured towns during the subsequent Dark Ages? Consider Japan’s rape of China. Hitler’s Holocaust. Eastern European genocides. Mexican cartel human trafficking. ISIS bonfires fueled with human bodies ...
No, Peggy & Dan. Great columns about Hamas’ inhumanity toward civilians in 2023. But, sad truth is, they’ve had far too many ugly “role models” and "strategic road maps" to follow.
