Hd Coach Gig in Storr 4 UConn’s Murray?

Laugh at your own risk as Son of Chicago Second City icon, Luke Murray, is the unsung brains behind unstoppable UConn offense that stomped its way to two-straight NCAA national titles in “Groundhog Day” fashion.

The WSJ article described the assistant coach’s impact this way: “If the University of Connecticut were living in ‘Groundhog Day,’ it probably would look a little something like their last two NCAA tournament [championships]. Always on the sidelines is [Head Coach] Dan Hurley, stomping & hollering about the tiniest mistakes. Always on the scoreboard, UConn is holding a double-digit lead. A major reason for the Huskies’ never-ending loop of NCAA tournament triumph is an assistant coach who has designed their unstoppable offense. He also happens to be Bill Murray’s son. Luke Murray may have grown up as the scion of comedy royalty, but his gift is for the X’s & O’s of the Hardwood. When he joined Hurley’s program in 2001 [after several asst coach gigs elsewhere], UConn hadn’t won a single tournament game in 5 seasons. Now, the Huskies can’t lose.”

Murray’s secret sauce, it’s suggested, is that he’s an “international hoops junkie” who relentlessly studies every conceivable strategy or tactic employed by teams around the world, including Spain, France & Japan, then, figures out how to graft them onto American collegiate basketball in the team’s Storrs, Conn. practice floor. “He’s really like a basketball genius,” explained sophomore forward Alex Karaban. “Always coming up with new sets.” Isn’t a head coaching job for Murray now only a matter of time?
