Highway Joe Holds Up Bipartisanship

It’s Joe’s Way or the Highway in WSJ’s “Biden Against Bipartisanship in Congress” as No. 46 has or will veto bills even some Dems support so that even extremists “are defying” their extreme leader on Covid & green policies.

As the paper’s editorial board noted: “President Biden likes to call for renewed bipartisanship & he’s getting more than he bargained for. Several Democrats in Congress this week joined the GOP to rebuke planks of the Biden agenda – from energy policy to Covid emergency rules. Besides several Dems voting with Republicans against proposed tax hikes on oil & gas, while “dozens” in Joe’s party have voted with the GOP to nix a bar on gas stoves and to end the Covid 19 emergency, which is being used to justify his student loan forgiveness plan.

Of course, the various efforts by Dems to distance themselves from Mr. Biden may go nowhere, since a presidential veto is unlikely to be overridden, the courts may issue rulings on some that will rule the day, and the president himself may decide not to expend political capital on a particular issue. “Yet, the Democrats breaking from political lockstep,” the WSJ concludes, “reveal the rank-and-file unease over Mr. Biden’s low approval rating and could have a bigger effect down the road. [Controversial] planks in the energy [agenda] are likely to be included in future budget or debt-ceiling bills and watch out if gasoline prices spike in 2024. Mr. Biden is the man blocking genuine bipartisanship now.”
