Homeschooled Spiranac Whiff At Game of Life
Does Paige Spiranac saying “I was just broke” to explain her ending a pro golf career reflect a potential problem with home schoolers like her? Was her “burnout” old school code for “giving up” when dreams met reality?
As the Fox News story related & while appearing in a “Playing A Round” podcast, the 29-yr-old recalled the “broken” feeling she had when her one-year stint as a pro-golfer came to a close. Note, the stud athlete played at the University of Arizona & San Diego State after flirting with tennis AND after dabbling in gymnastics. She explained her sudden decision to turn pro: “I was homeschooled. I practiced every single day, morning until night. It was my only goal. I was a highly ranked junior golfer and then at 18, I had to make the decision to go to college or turn pro.” Lack of success at the college level frustrated her, we’re told, so … she turned pro? “So many growing pains. I was burnt out of, I wouldn’t say golf, just dedicating my life to something and not really seeing the results. With gymnastics, it was hard because I was fighting injuries, and then with golf – golf is such an interesting sport because you can work out, eat right, practice and still not achieve your goals. That was something for me that I just couldn’t wrap my head around.”
Paige’s homeschooling apparently didn’t teach her that success in any endeavor is never guaranteed (as it can be in the wrong kind of homeschooling) and it’s usually a long process that takes patience, discipline and faith …
