Horrid History & Civics Scores? Surprised?

Latest nat’l report card shows 8th graders know little about history or civics & the wrong kind for what they do know? Recall Oct results showed horrid drop in math & reading scores, too? Ed Sec says it’s “Republicans’ fault”?

Peggy Carr, National Center for Education Statistics commissioner, told a briefing with reporters she was shocked by the 8th graders’ US history & civics scores, which AP says she characterized as “woefully low.” Dr. Carr added, “These data are a national concern. The health of our democracy depends on informed & engaged citizens.”

And, yet, how many school districts across the country, but especially in big cities, continue to emphasize “equity” policies & ironically biased Critical Race Theories at the expense of the “3Rs” and “liberal arts,” including a balance in history, civics, science, art, and so on? Is that “the Republicans’ fault”, too? Or, is it a symptom of a progressive malaise in a radicalized academia that’s spreading from our national into our local educational systems?
