Ian’s Perfect Storm For Used Car Scams
Hurricane Ian has insurance experts warning car-buyers over flood-damaged vehicles peddled by scammers. Ain’t it always the problem tho with Used Cars as depicted in Kurt Russell’s Disney masterpiece by that title?
Ever wonder why legit car dealers go to such great pains to convince used car buyers about how rigorous their pre-sale systems checks are? Buying someone else’s “lemon” ala a Hollywood comedy is one thing. But being taken in by a water damaged car shipped to drier climes is another and certainly no joke. It’s during hurricane season that the problem reaches outrageous proportions. Hurricane Ian, in particular, flooded an “untold number of vehicles,” says Fox Business, and “experts are warning unsuspecting car-buyers against the heightened risk of fraud as those cars may soon appear for sale across the US with no disclosure of the damage.”
National Insurance Crime Bureau President David Glawe pointed to the low supply & high prices of cars in the market today making a perfect storm for fraud, then, added: “We anticipate a significant amount of flooded-out vehicles to be cleaned up and then resold either in the state of Florida or probably in other states.”
