Illinois Puts Trespassers in YOUR Hands

Is Illinois “preparing for anarchy” by enacting new “SAFE-T Act” that critics say will “handcuff police” starting Jan. 1 by ending cash bail & making it harder to detain more violent criminals or remove trespassers from homes?

According to Fox News, “The SAFE-T Act … overhauls Illinois justice system with provisions like ending cash bail and implementing a higher standard on when a defendant can be detained for several crimes, including second-degree murder, aggravated battery, arson and kidnapping.” And this: “It also forbids police from physically removing non-violent trespassers.”

The reaction by many unsuspecting taxpayers was stark: “I think it’s stupid,” one resident told Fox. “I’ve worked for the system for 28 years and I think it’s about the dumbest thing Illinois has come up with so far.” Said Keith Pekau, a suburban Chicago mayor: “It’s the most dangerous law” he’s ever seen and “it could potentially spiral out of control relatively quickly.” Another opined: “If the police can’t remove them [i.e., trespassers] and it’s left up to the property owner, then more than likely they’ll be the people that get in trouble instead of the trespasser.” Of course. But, it’s a progressive “reform” …
