Iron Fist Pelosi Won Ton Of What?
Was Pelosi’s legacy that she unspeakably wieled her personal power over people? Did she rule with “iron-fist in velvet glove” to force 100% compliance from House Dems or, as WSJ asks, with “iron-fist in iron glove”?
As the editorial board noted, “After two decades of corralling Democrats, often against their will, Speaker Pelosi says she’ll return to the rank-and-file next year. Republicans who disagree with Mrs. Pelosi on practically everything can still learn from her how to effectively wield power.”
And yet, what good is that “effective” leadership if so little if any good comes of it? She was the driving force behind Obamacare that cost Dems control of Congress in 2010 and remains one of the most criticized welfare state expansions in history. And, that $31 trillion national debt did not balloon to such an extent without “Go Big Nancy” constantly pushing for it during her multiple stints as Speaker. As the WSJ argued, she apparently has “no regrets” but “she also bragged Thursday about passing President Biden’s infrastructure bill, which required staring down progressives who wanted to pair it with trillions in new social spending. She then passed the $700 billion Inflation Act. Despite a historically slim majority of 222 seats, Mrs. Pelosi kept Democrats in line when it mattered.” Wonderful. So, the editors say the likely GOP Speaker could learn a few things from Nanc. Really? Again, what good will wielding such power with an iron fist in an iron glove do the nation if all he or she can show for it at the end of the day is run-away inflation if not bankruptcy?
