Is Big Pharma’s Pricing Model Now A “Vet’s Best Friend”?
So, you think Big Pharma is ripping you off on skyrocketing drug prices? How do you explain my $231.29 vet bill for an antibiotic shot to treat my dog for a skin rash that didn’t involve an STD? Here’s the itemized invoice:
1 Office Visit $ 82.50
1 injection of antibiotic 109.26
1 bottle of super duper shampoo 39.53
REMINDER: Annual Shots Due TBD
1 THANK YOU for visiting 0.00
Not to put too fine a point on my bitch, but why $82.50 to walk through the vet’s door and not an even $82.00? And why $109.26 for the shot & not $109.50? Or, why $39.53 for the super duper shampoo rather than $39.50 or $39.73 or $109.26?
I empathize with vets needing to make a buck ... and the entire multi-billion industry that charges up to $5.99 the glorified tennis ball Lincoln likes to chomp on. But, like the outrageous pharma costs these days, credibility & accountability for the asking price still counts for something, doesn’t it?
