Israel’s Carving Up Gaza Temporary?
So “Israel is Building a Road Bisecting Gaza to Prepare for Next Phase of War”? Maybe if Israel builds a Suez Canal to cut Gaza in half? Maybe if another “long term temporary” waterway encircles Jerusalem in West Bank? You got to hand it to the Israelis for trying SOMETHING different after Hamas’ October massacre, i.e, when compared to the UN & US plus allies urging or demanding a cease fire & return to the do NOTHING pre-YKW status quo they largely, naively created.
Yet, while the Israelis insist they do not want to carve up Gaza, it’s hard not to suspect they are slicing this turkey prior to their envisioned Thanksgiving Day & think they can piece it back together sometime in the future, i.e., after a very long-awaited peace is somehow a PROVEN reality. As the WSJ notes, the Israelis are also building a “buffer zone” within Gaza & along its own border, again, for “temporary” security reasons that can last a long time. As for the new gravel road cutting Gaza in two, “I’d call it long-erm temporary – certainly for all of 2024,” retired Israeli colonel Miri Eisin told the paper.
Hey, didn’t the UN & powers that be do something like this in Korea & how long did it last? Now, what a Middle East mess we also have finally come to realize may not be cleaned up until hell freezes over. In the meantime, it’s hard to see how anyone can visit the Holy Land with any reasonable expectation of safety, i.e., until or unless that delusional moat ala the Dark Ages is built around Jerusalem.
