Israelis School Biden On Hamas & PA?

Joe sees underwater polls & now wants peace in Middle East before he drowns in 2024 soup cooked up by Bidenomics? Will Israelis heed sudden advice to fight Hamas more peacefully? Is “River to the Sea” a Biden lullaby?

One thing seems certain, i.e., the Israelis are unlikely to take even a cup of Joe’s recent demand that Israeli PM Netanyahu significantly “change” his blitzkrieg war strategy or risk being replaced by a kinder, gentler Israeli government. At least, so suggests the WSJ’s editorial board, which doubts “anyone in his right mind in Israel” would agree to a cease fire as Biden now suggests let alone meekly agrees to renewed two-state talks with the Palestinian Authority, at least, without mega-changes in Arab expectations. “As the editors noted: “Mohammad Shtayyeh, the PM of the PA” has insisted “Hamas is an integral part of the Palestinian mosaic.” And, they add, “the problem is that this is true … Hamas [& by way of extension the PA] doesn’t want a two-state solution; it wants the final solution.”

It's not that Mr. Biden didn’t expend a pot full of political capital on Israel’s fight for survival, the editors concede, & “was also right to stand up for Israel in the UN, [when] the international herd demand[ed] a cease-fire.” Yet, the realpolitik numbers don’t lie, as the WSJ concluded: “It isn’t Mr. Biden’s place to pick Israel’s leaders. Instead, he could try listening to Israelis about the risks of empowering a PA that has refused to condemn the Hamas massacre. Or he could listen to Palestinians, 72% of whom believe Hamas was right to launch its Oct. 7 attack …”
