It’s Trump’s Election to Win or Lose
Americans want to be able to say he or she is “My president” but Trump can’t seem to fully grasp this as he berates rather than passes on “crooked” Joe. Face it. Deal with it. Trump ain’t morphing from Grizzly Adams into Teddy Bear.
Nor does Mr. Trump have it in him to let lie for once the obvious-to-all-hypocrisy of Dems who yap about “democracy” then, post-primaries, kick their old man Joe out of the race. It’s more evidence of a too familiar character flaw in No. 45, argued the WSJ editorial board. In their “Trump Gives an Assist to Democrats,” the editors opined his nomination speech as well as his reaction to Biden’s decision to suspend his candidacy for re-election were “small-minded & divisive.” And, if so, it likely (and gratuitously) turned off many independent voters who want to see growth. It’s also a damn shame since Trump, who survived an assassination attempt, apparently HAS learned to praise Almighty God’s hand in human affairs & impress the entire electorate with his unmatched toughness, commitment & bravery.
The WSJ WANTED to give a full-throated “Bravo” to Mr. Trump for staging a successful RNC convention that even many Democrats are calling the best one in memory. But, then, that urge to take a victory lap as if he’s a trash talking NBA forward kicked in. Said the op ed: “The biggest doubt voters have about Mr. Trump is that he’s a divisive, vindictive man who is unable to speak for all Americans … [and] he didn’t rise to the occasion.” May we add “yet”? In 2016, he did show the ability to tone his rhetoric down as Hillary with the help of the FBI’s Comey dug her own grave in the final weeks of the campaign. It’s hard to believe he can’t do it again & coast to a second WH victory. We’ll see as Mr. Trump will likely be up against giggling Kamala Harris who lied to the nation for 3 years while covering up Mr. Biden’s deterioration. Concluded the frustrated editors: “The 2024 election is Donald Trump’s to lose & he may yet manage it.”
