Joe Blows Off Voters Who Rejected Him

Exiting Joe Biden is STILL tone deaf. He’s doubled down against Americans who rejected his destructive policies. Be kind to 9/11 terrorists? Ban ALL offshore drilling forever? In doing so he teed up a legacy of infamy in contrast to Jimmy Carter who lies honored.

The secretive release of GITMO detainees from Guantanamo was bad enough. But, the WSJ editorial board was livid over his 11th hour executive order trying to set in stone the perpetual removal of drilling leases in ALL US coastal areas: “Take that American voters. And that, and that. This seems to be President Biden’s message in his final days in office as he ignores the November election verdict on his tenure & doubles down on the policies voters rejected. The latest example is his sweeping order Monday to remove some 625 million acres of offshore waters from oil & gas leasing” under the assumption HE knows best.”

It probably won’t work, the editors suggest, since “The reality is that global oil demand is growing & environmental protection is compatible with energy development.” While President-elect Trump has already vowed to overturn Biden’s EO with his own EO, an old existing law may require an act of Congress; if not, a time-consuming lawsuit may be needed. As the WSJ noted, “Congress’s goal [in the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act] was to promote domestic oil & gas development while preserving a President’s discretion over private leasing.” Even Trump No. 45 removed waters off the south- and mid-Atlantic coasts. But, that EO lasted only until 2032 because it was assumed by nearly all legal scholars that it would be illegal to impose a ban forever. One just has to wonder now, whether Joe will be mourned quite in the same way as Jimmy.
