Joe’s EV Policy Never Got Hang of It

Is the Biden Administration now threatening to “Hang the Oil & Gas CEOs” for high energy prices a ruse to divert attention away from their own naïve progressive alternative energy policies?

The WSJ’s editorial board suggests as much as they recently opined “Chuck Schumer & Senate Democrats call for prosecuting fossil-fuel executives” ala the lawfare they endorsed against President Trump. Specifically, we learn the Sen Majority Leader was joined by 22 other Dems in a letter to the DOJ they help fund that accuses “US oil producers of colluding to keep prices high & inflate their profits.” It’s the same ‘ol Joe tactic of blaming “other people’s greed” for every failed energy policy he’s pursued, from massive subsidies to an EV industry suddenly created by his own mandate to skyrocketing beef prices supposedly caused by greedy ranchers whose farting cows are causing global warming.

Yet, as columnist Holman Jenkins noted in another op ed, Joe’s Quixotic quest to save the world via his inflationary “Inflation Reduction Act “was never seriously thought” to be a viable way to reduce emissions, i.e., by gov’t subsidizing green-energy consumption … [that policy] simply subsidizes more energy consumption – including fossil energy to churn out EV-batteries, wind turbines, solar panels,” not to mention the recharging of the promised but curiously never appearing recharging stations.  In short, Holman argues any honest economist will agree with him that “Joe’s policy adds to the unlimited amount of energy humans will consume if the price is right.” So, dang it, when will Joe get the hang of it?
