Joe’s Morehouse Address Less Than More
As Biden’s black support erodes, he stoked racial resentments with an “America Hates You, Stupid” message to Morehouse College grads, whereas Obama in 2013 stressed “progress & opportunity” rather than victimization.
WSJ columnist Jason Riley clearly saw the disparity in the two Democrat leaders’ messaging: “Obama urged graduates of the historically black, all-male college in Atlanta not to squander the tremendous opportunities that 21st-century America had to offer them. He highlighted that ‘laws & hearts & minds’ had changed significantly for the better over the decades as evidenced by, among other things, his election.” Not that much more work in achieving true equality wasn’t & isn’t still needed. Yet, the 44th president “emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in black advancement & counseled the graduates to guard against self-pity. He said that while his job as president was to advocate policies that ‘generate more opportunity for everybody,’ government efforts go only so far.”
And what did Joe harp on? The importance of living in a past that no longer exists & ignoring today’s racial success stories: “You started college just as George Floyd was murdered & there was a reckoning on race. It’s natural to wonder if democracy you hear about actually works for you … What is democracy if black men are being killed in the street? What is democracy if a trail of broken promises still leave black communities behind? What is democracy if you have to be 10 times better than anyone else to get a fair shot?” Well, Joe, what is democracy if you let demagogues write (and you read off) such a pathetic slap in the face of, not only the achieving Morehouse students, but the millions of blacks who HAVE fought for & fairly won the promised American Dream?
