Joe’s Rule By Pen Proliferates

One of the precedents set by Obama was to end run Congress by ruling with “phone & pen.” Trump copied the trick to fight DC gridlock & Biden’s outdoing both, WSJ suggests, by using EOs & bureaucracy “full throttle.”

Opined the editors: “If you thought the GOP takeover of the House means gridlock in Washington prevails, think again. Rule by regulation is accelerating & the only check will be the courts.” That’s because “President Biden is leading an unprecedented expansion of the administrative state. In 2 yrs his Administration has imposed 517 regulatory actions with some $318 billion in total costs. By the same point in his Administration, Pres Obama had imposed 740 comparable rules with a cost of $208 billion. Across four years Pres Trump imposed 1,340 rules at a cost of $64.7 billion.”

Pretty scare stuff, but the little hope the WSJ puts in “the courts” may be just as fantastic as thinking the progressive left will stop taking over the entire government through the bureaucracy. Why? Think of all those progressive federal judges sitting on the bench who made Trump’s own comparatively conservative & corrective policies miserable so many times.
