Juneteenth Tragedy Despite Heroic Police?

As 15-yr-old boy dies screaming for mom & cop shot next to him during Moechella festival on DC’s U Street one might ask if we need Rome’s “solution,” e.g., police armed with AKs at Trevi Fountain, to stop the thugs…

As the Fox News story noted, 100 more police were nearby trying to keep the peace while “several others were injured during what should have been a joyful Juneteenth weekend celebration. The details at the “unpermitted”, informal celebration of human rights described by the NY Times & other media don’t really matter as much as the tragic result: “He was screaming out for his mom,” a witness Daniel Dyson told WTTG. “And it’s hurtful to hear that man.” I’ll say. Yet, “no one could help him,” even the officers who stood about “everywhere” trying to keep folks safe and happy. In fact, the officer shot in the leg was standing next to the deceased young victim when the first shots rang out and he fell himself with a bullet to the leg. “He did not want to stay down. He proceeded on” Dyson reportedly said. “He was shot in the leg. And he kept moving. He went to the fire. He did not run away.”

Mr. Dyson, who had tried with police to save the 15-yr-old summed it all up best: “To see him go…it bothers me…All of this that’s going on here, it bothers me. It needs to come to a stop. It really does. It doesn’t matter which color is your race, what kind of uniform you’re wearing. It needs to come to a stop. And, if it doesn’t, it’s going to be innocent kids dying every day because people don’t want to do this.” Police never did return the fire in the crowded street, they were there to help, not make matters worse, even at risk of their own safety ...
