Latest UN Climate Warning Calls Out All But China

WSJ noted the UN’s scientists issued their latest “Stark Climate-Change Warning” & its potential catastrophic consequences, but as usual failed to address how the US & Euros can control the biggest carbon polluter, China.

Failing that real politic tactical approach to the generalized problem suggests this 2021 report will again likely trigger more hand wringing debate than action. The scientists insist they have “better methodologies than ever before” to gauge how the climate is changing & how to “connect the dots” between it & human activity. But, what else is new other than another “I told you so” tomb extolling the scientific community’s brilliance that points the finger at everyone but no one? For instance, its “Report highlights human responsibility for record heat waves, droughts, more intense storms & other extreme weather events seen around the world …” & it calls for much more draconian measures by all governments than the existing “Paris Accord” to change the tide before the damage is “irreversible for centuries”. Yet, the mostly voluntary Paris deal the UN pushed for put the lion’s share in getting things done on America & apparently isn’t working anyway. We still don’t know exactly who (besides the USA & Euros) is going to do what, pay for what & duck if and when all that effort & money doesn’t stem the UN”s predicted tide. Maybe a new report on how to protect the world’s most vulnerable coastal areas would be more productive?

As Sonia Seneviratne, a senior scientist at ETH Zurich & lead co-author of the report, concluded: “We don’t really have time to adapt anymore because the change is happening so quickly.” Presuming she’s right, then, maybe the UN will also quickly give us a report on how to get China to limit the damage it’s doing to the environment? Then, maybe the politicking will stop and the real “joint” walking can begin?
