Left Wingers Get $158M To Rep Kids Being Deported

Real Americans have a soft spot for those foreigners really wanting to become Americans too. But, even Grinch with his swelled heart might balk at a left-wing group getting a $158 million taxpayer-funded contract to help illegal immigrant children avoid deportation at all costs.

According to Fox News, HHS awarded the taxpayers’ largesse to Vera Institute of Justice, a group that also backs “defunding the police” and “views immigration enforcement agencies as a ‘threat’ to civil liberties.” The Institute “is a behemoth progressive nonprofit based out of New York City with well over a $140 million budget, which they use to fund a slate of progressive causes & initiatives across the country,” Jason Hopkins, an investigative associate with the Immigration Reform Law Institute, told Fox. “Whether that be criminal justice reform, bail reform or immigration.”

A spokesperson for the Institute countered by suggesting that the latest government contract would be used strictly for defending children unaccompanied by their parents from deportation &/or detention whose right to remain in the U.S. can be hard to prove without expert legal help from them. Ah, but those child deportations are civil, not criminal, so there doesn’t seem to be a specific law on the books requiring Uncle Sam to provide legal protection against Uncle Sam’s Immigration officials who are paid by Uncle Sam while seeking a given deportation. And yet, it does now to the tune of at least $158M. So, who’s paying who to represent the parents or coyotes of these underrepresented children? And, how much does the Institute get to be mouthpieces for them crossing the border without “documentation”?
