Liberated Winston Marshalls Gumption

A “liberated” Winston Marshall shows how to cancel cancel culture, i.e., by having “no regrets” leaving folk rock band Mumford & Sons. He says being free to speak freely about important if taboo topics is exhilarating.

As Fox News relates, “Marshall fell victim to cancel culture last year after tweeting his support for a book by conservative author Andy Ngo that [purported to] expose the left wind radicalism of Antifa, i.e., in “Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy.” At the time, Marshall had simply called the book “important” and apologized in the wake of the unexpected backlash. On second thought, however, he left the band he co-founded so he could voice his opinions on topics “close to his heart.” Marshall explained, “No point in having regrets. One needs to move forward … in life. Things are what they are, and I’m enjoying the work I’m now doing very much.” Back on the road after two years in hiatus, that work also includes hosting the podcast “Marshall Matters.”

Said Marshall: “I’m thrilled to be back. I’ve been playing songs that I’ve written over the last few years, but playing alone with a guitar. Crowds have been very attentive, listening. It’s nice to play the songs stripped back & let the lyrics & melody do the work.” Yeah, but was it all worth it? He says it was: “The hill I ended up dying on … was far-left extremism in the US. [Yet] if you care about Black lives, as the supporters of Black Lives Matter purport to do, do you not care that all those Black businesses were destroyed during the riots? Do you not care that 19 people were killed in the first 14 days of the riots? That’s serious stuff.”
