Lincoln IS The Great Emancipator
President Day’s thought for those complaining Lincoln’s biggest concern was saving the Union not freeing the slaves (as he ADMITTED). Maybe Abe worried if Union wasn’t fought for, South’s slaves might never be freed?
Or, at least, many generations later? Of course, the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Lincoln as a “military necessity” and did not “legally free” a single slave until the bloody Civil War ended & the Constitution was amended to eradicate the original “compromise” sin. Meanwhile, the president pressed ahead in fighting the Confederacy to the death … and what he rightly fore saw would be the inevitable death of slavery. How many men died saving that Union & finally freeing the slaves?
And, how many of America’s president before or since could have pulled off that feat that seemed impossible at the time?
