Lincoln Was “Disenthralled” Of Past, Should We Be Too?

Pundits might be wise to disenthrall selves over history of US presidents’ “misreading” Putin as the No. 1 foe to world peace as if the “rankings” matter; perhaps more dangerously they naively fail to grasp the simple reality foreign policy should treat ALL nations as competitors.

For instance, WSJ’s editors noted how Biden & Obama ridiculed then-presidential candidate Romney for calling Putin’s Russia the biggest geopolitical threat. To read the piece, it’s almost as if Mitt’s or anyone’s ranking of bad actors could somehow have been helpful ala the March Madness seedings as ISIS, al Qaeda, North Korea & Iran as well as Russia & China littered the world stage with threatening behavior. But, think, too, how the EU keeps sucking, then & now, the life out of the US economy by exporting its globalist policies, excusing hypocritical trade deals, demanding US to foot their defense bill & mandating renewable energy at any cost. Then, there’s Fox’s Tucker Carlson who argues Americans have been “trained” by the military industrial complex & MSM into automatically “hating” Russia, which has been transparent in ruthlessly looking out for its self-interests, & suggest we (not so much Russia) “will suffer because of it.”

Any chance in all this grasping at the wrong straws, Mr. Trump was on to something in coining the phrase “America First”? Not in the sense of insisting the “Last Best Hope of Earth” should be selfish like the world’s bullies or even allies, but simply wise enough to know human nature & everyone’s natural desire to enjoy their notion of “life, liberty & pursuit of happiness”?
