Livid Mahomes Robs Peter, Pays State Farm

After claiming refs robbed him for NOT calling interference on Packer CBs that “cost us the game,” Chiefs QB Mahomes trashed ref FOR CALLING offsides to rob ‘em of game-winning Kelce TD vs Bills. Swift justice or sad Cry Me A River song?

After the game, the perpetually happy State Farm salesman & oft-cheerful Chiefs quarterback Mahomes melted down before a national audience. The display of unmitigated rage, including slamming of his helmet on the sidelines, happened after an almost-legendary pass from him to tight end Taylor Swift’s husband Travis Kelce (*) who lateraled 15 yards to a trailing teammate who waltzed into the end zone to temporary delight of the Arrowhead (aka Tomahawk Chop) Stadium crowd … WAS NULLIFIED by a yellow flag on a KC wideout. Instant replay showed Mahome’s teammate (& Kelce's receiver) HAD been lined up in the neutral zone when the ball was snapped. So, Mahomes (after maybe getting a call from State Farm’s CEO reminding him he was getting paid BIG BUCKS TO SHOW HIS HAPPY GOOD HANDS SIDE IN GAMES) was less livid in a post-game presser, but only a bit: “To take away greatness like that,” explained Mahomes, “you want to see the guys on the field decide the game.”

Here, Here! Yet … What’s the old saying about watch what you wish for? You can’t one week trash the refs for NOT calling an obvious penalty in the game's deciding moment, then, the next week trash the refs FOR calling an obvious penalty in that game's deciding moment. True, the offside penalty was ticky tack-ish but how could the ref know Kelce would try to make history seconds later? Nor does it matter. The rules are the rules & I’d gag if the ref, but do my job & throw the flag. Mahomes might follow MY No. 1 rule in sports: Win the games before a final play or two so refs CAN’T decide the game for you. (*T to T to T Penalty? CBS’s Tony Romo woulda, coulda, shoulda been flagged when he called Taylor Travis’ “wife”.)
