Logic Not Supremes’ Strong Suit But Robed Giants Gamble On Getting CFPB Half Right
Ever since I was in law school during the 1970s there was an endless debate in Congress as well as the Supreme Court over the Constitution’s Separation of Powers clause. You’d think after 244 years, the Supremes would get the tug of war between presidents and the Capitol Hill peanut eaters right. In crisp, clear, English. A dash of logic would be nice, too. Fifty years since law school days, I’m still not holding my breath.
Consider Monday’s Fox News report titled “Supreme Court rules CFPB head can be fired for any reason, in blow to (consumer protection) agency created under Obama.” Ok. Yet, as Pocahontas aka Sen. Liz Warren reminded, the Court left standing the rest of the incredibly vague statute that arguably gave all future presidents, yes, even Donald Trump, incredibly vague powers to “protect consumers” against real or imagined bad guys and however the hell they wanted to. The CFPB has proven to be one of the single most powerful & uncontrolled federal agencies in existence; so much so, that James Comey would have loved to have had its la-la-land mission statement for the FBI he weaponized against Trump.
Well, at least the CFPB COULD be a bane to the corrupt in Corporate America that’s been kissing Socialists and Anarchists butts in recent weeks just to sell their crap we don’t need or want. Hopefully, Mr. Trump will use his deal-making skills to point the new CFPB cop in the right direction; that is, so long as Pelosi doesn’t try to defund the agency now that Mr. Trump had his way with the right to fire issue. And, if I live another 50 years, maybe I’ll get to see the Robed Giants explain their logic on Presidential Powers in crisp, clear English.
