Long-Covid Study Short On Science?
WSJ’s “The CDC’s Long-Covid Deception” points to its new study “exaggerating incidence of postviral symptoms among young adults & deflects attn from misconceived pandemic policies.” Another medical shell game exposed?
The news report focuses on George Washington University’s draconian pandemic lockdown policies of yore, in which classes were held online during the first year of the pandemic even as some students returned to campus, but only so long as they got weekly Covid testing; then, “during the 2021-22 school year, classrooms reopened, but students were required to be vaccinated and later boosted.” Low & behold, a recent study from the CDC claims nearly “36% of Covid cases among students, faculty & staff at GWU resulted in “long Covid”, suggesting that “young healthy people face a high risk of chronic debilitating symptoms after infection despite being at low risk of getting severely ill with the virus.” Yet, the WSJ notes, the CDC study doesn’t include a control group that weren’t infected, “making the 36% reported long Covid symptoms meaningless.” Moreover, the study defines “long-Covid expansively to include problems common among college students” like fatigue, anxiety, sadness, trouble sleeping – or “other symptoms”. In short, the “catch-all” study was arguably designed to “prove” a preconceived notion.
As the WSJ wrote: “Many liberals label themselves ‘pro-science’ as if that’s a political position. Then, again, so many putatively scientific studies seem intended to promote progressive policies rather than advance scientific knowledge. Such studies then get amplified by the media & self-appointed experts on social media.”
