Longer Life Thanks To Olio d’Oliva? Grazie Italiano!
I knew by marrying an Italian I’d live longer but never thought it would be because of her olive oil. This epicurean foolishly shunned olive oil in salad & cuisine, until a new study showed it was better at extending life & fighting disease than Dr. Fauci.
Call me a converted East European ve-ge-ta-ble oil snob. Now, I also cook with olio d’oliva (extra virgin) whenever I can find a recipe that calls for it. And, I’ve discovered how good it tastes in my favorite green salads, especially when mixed in combo with aceto balsamico (balsamic vinegar). But, I digress. The study referenced by Fox News was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. It found that “people who consume more than half a tablespoon (7 grams aka sette grammi) of olive oil per day have been found to have a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurodegenerative disease and respiratory disease.” The researchers also found people live longer when they replace “10 grams per day of margarine, butter, mayonnaise and dairy fat with olive oil.”
Ok. But, I draw the line on maionese.
