Mama Knows Best: “Mangia!”Your Plants AND Meats

Fox reports that a new study shows plant-based meat is not nutritionally the same as real meat & it’s another wake up call to simply “eat a balanced array of foods” to maximize your health.


It’s not that plant-based meat is better or worse than real meat, the study emphasized. It’s just that at closer examination they each provide a lot of good nutrients … just not always the same nutrients.


“Researchers at Duke University compared 36 food samples – 18 of widely know plant-based meat alternatives to 18 grass-fed ground beef options from a ranch in Idaho. For each sample, they measured the number of metabolites, small molecules that make up the nutrients in foods. The study, published in Scientific Reports, discovered the beef contained 22 metabolites that the plan-based substitutes did not have. The plant-based meat, meanwhile, contained 31 metabolites that meat did not include.” Biggest disparities were in vitamins, amino acids & fatty acids found in both food products.
