Mamma Mafia: Italy’s House Divides Again
Watching news of Italy’s PM resigning & old Sopranos episodes at same time reminds how progressive economic & health policies mismanage things so badly a leadership change belies desperation. Take a hint Joe?
You might recall how HBO’s “The Sopranos” revolved around the rise & fall of the NY-NJ mafia as resurrected by Capo Tony who “modernized” the Mob’s “old ways” to survive a new RICO law; problem is, America’s still stuck with the home grown hoodlums. Arguably, Italy’s coalition government in 2022 under PM Draghi’s watch also no longer had to lean on Mafia muscle for sustenance as he tried to modernize its old progressive ways aka a massive national debt; but Italians are still stuck with crappy progressive pols who act like Lorenzo Medici with a bottomless check book is still walking the streets of Florence. As the WSJ points out, PM Draghi is a former president of the European Central Bank who reigned for 17 months on hopes he’d bring some stability to his hopelessly divided spendthrift country. Yet, the newspaper noted, his “support crumbled” thanks to key parts of his coalition, especially on the far-Left, abandoned him in the midst of “surging inflation & an economic slowdown.” Any surprise really?
Enter President Biden who now tells us he got cancer from Pennsylvania’s coal industry, not the fact he was an avid sunbather when he wasn’t sniffing females’ hair follicles. Joe’s Party is turning on him & begging he not run for re-election in 2024. Yet, by then, what state will our economy be in as he mightily mismanages it, i.e., now that he’s declared abortion & climate change a national emergency? Might Joe not take a hint from Draghi, resign now?
