Manchin Stuffs Dems’ Plan To Gut Senate Filibuster

W Va’s Manchin now says he’s against changing the Senate’s filibuster rules just to grease Dems’ election agenda, unless the GOP agrees. In doing so, he’s suggesting any majority’s attempt to pack Congress is just as onerous as packing the S Ct. Both are turkeys cause once you bite into the bird you must expect it to bite you back … when the minority becomes the majority.

Right now, Senate rules say the votes of 60 senators are needed to advance most bills, i.e., overcome the right of any one member to filibuster aka stall, gum up, torpedo it. It’s been a particular stone in the Dems’ shoe this year as they’ve become increasingly frustrated at controlling the WH & both house of Congress, yet not being able to ram through their budget, BBB, election & other legislation on their socialist, er, progressive wish list.

“Being open to a rule change that would create a nuclear option [on any new bill] … is a heavy lift,” Manchin told reporters. Nor did he like the Dems’ idea of making an “exception” in the case of its election reform bill that would mandate mail-in voting nation-wide & give the federal government the power to approve state election-law changes where there’s a history of racial discrimination. “Any time there’ a carve-out, you eat the whole turkey,” he said. “There’s nothing left.”
