Monticello Now Awoke With CRT?

Has Jefferson’s Monticello turned the Declaration of Independence author into a CRT advocate? A visitor’s recent “depressing & demoralizing” woke tour review suggested as much in its trashing of Founding Father…

Jeffery Tucker, founder of the Brownstone Institute, is one who told Fox News, his recent “experience at the Virginia landmark” on July 4, “was sad & deflated the American founder’s reputation, even though he advocated for emancipation and the separation of church and state, while admittedly living in luxury on his slave-holding plantation. Tucker described the famous house as “looking like a rummage sale with contemporary paintings hung inside. He said tour guides repeatedly diminished Jefferson’s accomplishments, claiming his reputation is ‘wildly overblown.’”

Dr. Carol Swain, a former Princeton & Vanderbilt professor, suggested the estate’s woke shift is likely the result of The 1619 Project, which critics have argued is a biased, oft-inaccurate rewriting of “history as told through the lens of critical race theory,” which in turn argues, among other things, the Revolutionary War was fought primarily to preserve the institution of slavery and that all white people are either consciously or subconsciously privileged if not racist. “We had a great nation,” Prof. Swain said. “It is being destroyed now by people who hate America. Nothing constructive will come from this effort.” A spokesperson for Monticello told Fox by way of a talking point eerily sounding like a CRT talking point: “Our goal is to present an honest, inclusive history of Monticello in all its aspects…” Funny, I toured Monticello 3 years ago and I could have sworn THAT is what was presented by the tour guides then, but without the ugly woke cheap shots.
