Mrs Safuta’s 103 Yr Secret Was To Love Every Single Day

I won’t miss Edith Safuta, who died one day short of 103, because her irrepressible zest for life & example on how to run the good race will be enriching me for the rest of my life. I suspect the scores of grateful people whose lives she touched feel the same.

Born in Eastern Europe Edith emigrated to the United State circa 1935 and met her émigré husband, Frank, in New York. Like so many Europeans who left their homelands, the Edith struggled to make ends meet early on in the Big Apple, but through scrimping and saving managed to do well at odd jobs, then, as entrepreneurs. The couple would move to Washington, DC in their retirement years, then, travelled the world as avid tourists appreciating the cultures & people they met in them. The details don’t matter. What does is their endearing love for one another and uncanny ability to inspire those around them to feel that much better about themselves. Whenever. Everywhere.

I met Mrs. Edith after about eight years ago and after her Soul Mate had passed. Yet, at the age of 95 she was forever spry, forever sharp. Conversation with her was always easy as she’d relate her own story, but always wind up weaving it into yours … often with sage advice on this, that or the other matter. One piece of advice she’d constantly harp on that she said was the secret to her own successful marriage, if not life itself: Always tell your loved one how much you love them EVERY SINGLE DAY. Edith, who lived that life’s lesson, passed this week quietly in her sleep. Surely with a smile on her face.
