MSM Critics Diss TG:M & Movie Goers

Two thumbs down for our MSM elitist, if not old fashion snooty, film critics for dissing Cruise’s old fashioned “Top Gun” sequel that customers made a $1.4 BILLION blockbuster. Do we miss Siskel & Ebert or what?

Fox columnist Judith Miller opines on “2022’s best movies” and how “You’d be shocked if you look at the New York Times’ and legacy media lists.” In short, she quips, “The list of best movies reveals a sharp contrast between what the public watched and what critics loved” and it “suggests how utterly out of touch some of the nation’s most prominent film critics are with what Americans want to watch.” The New York Times critics, for instance, didn’t even put “Top Gun: Maverick” in their Top Ten in their year-end Ode to Self-Importance? Nor did the so-called experts at the Wall Street Journal, New Yorker or Los Angeles Times. Among the nation’s leading newspapers, Miller noted, “only the Washington Post’s Ann Hornaday chose [TG:M] as the year’s best film.”

As Hornaday explained her minority view, Cruise’s sequel is “a blockbuster in the best sense of the word … a big, old-fashioned movie-movie that outclassed the first movie in its smart writing, canny casting, authentic emotion (still crying, Iceman) and bold, beautiful production values.” Well frankly, Ann, the guidance regularly given by your blind colleagues is why I stopped reading and/or counting on their reviews a long time ago.
