Musk Cherry Picks Twitter Potential

Chris Mims makes compelling case “Why Elon Musk’s Quest to Revive Twitter Is Likely To Fail,” but Tesla, SpaceX Man’s deep pockets & ego as well as platform’s endless potential ala a Milky Way black hole argue …

… otherwise. At the heart of Mims’ pessimism is Mr. Musk’s nuking of the struggling Twitter and going back to the drawing board as if it were still in its startup stage. Opined Mims, “Musk’s strategy … might work at a startup, but Twitter is a mature company in an extremely competitive market, with little prospects for growth.”

Perhaps. But, wasn’t the potential size of Twitter a niche deal to begin with? And, from the get go, wasn’t the platform’s attractiveness largely based on the ability to communicate & debate complex ideas in a short amount of space & time? Has any of that changed, regardless of what Mr. Musk does now to better leverage those initial draws and max revenue? Enter Father Time with Deep Pockets. If anyone can make Twitter better than ever, i.e., before he runs out of money, it’s Musk. The World’s Richest Man has a huge ego as well as huge patience with “massive revenue losses” he’s already admitted to in the first year of the takeover. No one said Twitter would be a bowl of cherries without any pits …
