Napoleon Trudeau Gives Truckers Whiff of Grapeshot
As Canadian clergy rebuked their PM Trudeau for invoking an Emergency Act & other “tyrannical” measures it bears recalling President Trump had more compelling grounds for declaring marshal law but did not during the summer Floyd riots. So much for a more progressive Canada?
Not that that bridge between Canada & the US didn’t need to be reopened. But, as the WSJ also noted this week, Trudeau had not come close to exhausting existing local laws to diffuse the Canadian Convoy Covid protest before he invoked for the first time ever the national act meant to counteract the likes of al Qaeda & ISIS. And, without exchanging any dialogue with the protesting truckers while suggesting they were tantamount to terrorists, he ordered the confiscation of private trucker & supporter funds, then, their forceable arrest “kiss my coattails Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley” style.
The group of 29 Canadian religious leaders who sent an open letter to Trudeau earlier this week did not mince any words: “The Ottawa protest has presented your government with a wonderful opportunity to meet with and speak to ordinary Canadians lawfully & peaceably requiring the restoration of their constitutional rights. However, in response to their singing, praying, dancing, candy floss, bouncy castles, speeches about the Constitution & outpourings of patriotic love for the country, your government has not only refused to meet with these citizens to hear their concerns, you have insulted, denigrated and lied about them, further dividing a hurting and broken nation.” So, the Canadians needed a gentler, kinder crisis leader like No. 45 and instead they go a “Whiff of Grapeshot” ala Napoleon?
