New Year’s Resolution To Act Out God’s Loving Gifts
Raised Catholic, New Year’s Day can be a never-ending guilt trip between resolving to give up sinful ways & doing good works; the former is a no-brainer & the latter is perhaps a Road Less Travelled. The Bible points to the Right Road aka an independent if moderate & less radical one filled with God’s own love.
The sometimes worn out yet eternally relevant Corinthians, for instance, reminds us what a better mindset looks like, albeit in the context of a person who knows how to love the trinity of God’s gifts of Life, Free Will & Grace: “Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps not record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth.”
So, it’s in with those inspired Words one can imagine one proper resolution in the midst of this woeful pandemic might be: To conscientiously be more thankful for the blessings we do have in our lives & to use them for the glory of the Lord, not our own; to meet the many challenges we inevitably will face, as He did unto the Cross, with the infallible Grace lovingly granted on Pentecost.
