No Doubt Justice Thomas Is P*****
Did much maligned Justice Clarence Thomas just drink from a cup of sour grapes when he told a judicial conference: “I think what you are going to find & especially in Washington, people pride themselves on being awful. It is a hideous place”?
This commentary was no commercial for DC, let alone the human race. If asked, the Supreme Court veteran conservative might want to take a bitter pill, then, soften his candid insight with a “some people” rather than a universal “you people” approach. Perhaps he did when he went on to explain that there are some “reckless” people in Washington DC will “bomb your reputation … or your good name or your honor. That’s not a crime. But they can do as much harm that way … We’re in a world [in which] the last two or three years [there’s been a lot of ‘nastiness & lies” that to the couple are “just incredible.”
Justice Thomas vowed, however, to soldier on. “You have some choices. You don’t get to prevent people from … saying horrible things. But you have to understand & accept the fact that they can’t change you unless you permit that.” The critics, especially on the progressive side, have railed against the Justice & his wife, especially accusing him of accepting luxury trips from a GOP donor (& longtime friend) without reporting them, although the judicial rules at the time didn’t require such disclosure. Meanwhile, his wife, conservative activist Ginni Thomas, was taken to task for using her Facebook page “to push claims” President Biden was involved in corruption.
