Non-Degreed Day Care Slugs Needn’t Apply?

Adding on to all the well-intentioned but disturbingly “irrational” progressive ideas is DC’s new law mandating lead day care workers to get an associate degree in early childhood ed. Another unnecessary expense for parents?

Want to bet the day care bill goes up? And, did anyone ever think this bright educational idea may rob someone of a good job for which he or she is not only well-suited but NEEDED in some minority communities? True, those with 10 years of comparable experience are exempted. But, what galled WSJ most is the inanity of the District’s law that goes into effect in 2023 & was just upheld by a federal appeals court: “Supervising young children requires vigilant eyes … a degree” as well?

Said the court appeals court in upholding what’s known as “Great Books Daycare”: “A variety of courses outside the early-childhood major, from math & English to art & history, could be beneficial to someone tasked with the educational development of toddlers – as any adult who has been flummoxed by a 2-yr-old repeatedly asking ‘why’ can attest. Countered the WSJ who couldn’t believe that argument was a valid “governmental interest”: “Sorry, judge, but that’s hilarious. When 2-yr-olds ask why, the best answer often is ‘because I said so.’ They are not interested in history, since they’ve never heard of it.” Nor do toddlers need to know woke ideas loaded with misleading or wrong ideas about CRT & why mommy can’t help being a racist, the coming environmental doomsday, or knowing one’s transgender rights. Concluded the WSJ: “Progressives scream child care is too costly, so Pres Biden proposes massive federal subsidies. Does no one stop to think how burdensome regulations might be to rising costs?”
