Of March Madness’ Oreo Sponsor & Innocent Black Jobs

Can someone tell us how in today’s woke, PC rich, cancel culture the makers of Oreo Cookies can brag about sponsoring March Madness & LeBron’s NBA while the competition at Aunt Jemima is forced to change the picture on its bottles in order to survive?


Maybe Oreo’s owner, Mondelez International, doesn’t know that when I was growing up on the street’s of Chicago’s South Side, the name was often used by Blacks & whites alike to describe one “black on the outside, white on the inside” aka “Uncle X”. Or, maybe they do & that’s why they are now paying out big bucks to the corporate elite to help their “image” after being innocently sucked into today’s cancel culture for something not of their doing. Or, maybe it’s because the Chicago Tribune told us how the company was no longer going to make Oreos at its South Side Mondelez Plant & 1,400 folks, many of whom are Black & Brown, were going to lose their jobs, at least, unless willing to relocate to Mexico. (Meanwhile, we’re assured Oreos “will be made at three other U.S. plants” to keep the company’s NCAA & NBA sugar daddies from crumbling.)


Innocents get hurt a lot in life. Easter told us that. Could it be cancel culture run amok ala the Pharisees still isn’t helping them nowadays, just the corporate rich, both here & abroad? I still remember my South Side park district “Midget League” being called the “Orioles” & our battle cry on the way to a coveted championship was “Yo-ho-ho for an Oreo…” We loved the cookie as much as we love baseball & life itself. Shame how “adults” & “greed” can ruin all kinds of innocence?
