Oorah! Dems Promise 2025 ‘Tax Armageddon’
The most mind-bending utterance in the 2024 campaign may be Democrats’ “promise” to bring about a “Tax Armageddon” in 2025 by holding Trump’s middle-class tax cuts hostage unless the GOP agrees to a huge overall tax increase.
Does a massive tax increase in a presidential election make any sense whatsoever? That is, except in these “all or nothing” sweepstakes times any sensible person can’t grasp? To be sure and as the WSJ editorial board notes, the Democrats are again hawking their worn-out mantra that they just want the rich to pay their fair share of taxes and, if the middle class has to stand in their way, tough toenails. Note, this imbecility is not our fault, the WSJ explains: “It comes from Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, who like other Senate Democrats has been laying out in public the party’s tax strategy for the next Congress. Democrats are saying out loud that they plan to use the scheduled expiration of the 2017 tax cuts at the end of 2025 to insist on the largest tax increase in history.” To quote Warner himself: “The main goal here is this can’t just be a debate about the 2017 tax cuts. This is going to be Tax Armageddon.”
Really? Even giving the Democratic tax and spend zealots like Elizabeth Warren the benefit of the doubt, i.e., they can’t really be serious & are just bluffing, the extreme rhetoric can only scare the bejesus out of voters. Even those voters also wanting to somehow soak the rich without destroying the economy know full well that average middle-class folks always wind up paying the piper too. Isn’t that exactly why President Biden “promised” never to soak anyone earning “less than $400,000”? As if $400K is the new definition of rich?
