Pandemic, Defunded Police & Skyrocketing Carjacking
Carjacking & vehicle thefts are “skyrocketing” across the country, while big city mayors tell defunded police to bail them out (even tho no bail is allowed) & motorists to wait out the pandemic … Anything wrong with this road map?
“In 2020, e.g., Chicago carjackings [alone] were up a staggering 134%, with 1,416 people being forcibly removed from their vehicle,” the National Insurance Crime Bureau reports. “This trend has continued in 2021, with Chicago seeing [another] 44% increase, Washington, DC up 45% & New York an 81% increase.” Fox News says, similar crime waves are being reported in SF, LA & other big California cities. And, the violent thievery, we’re told, “is spreading to the suburbs.”
National pols like VP Kamala Harris & mayors like Chicago’s Lori Lightfoot often blame “the pandemic” for the runaway carjacking … and of course the economic disruption resulting from their draconian lockdown policies coupled with efforts to defund the police and/or consciously not prosecute retail thefts created a “perfect storm.” Couldn’t the same be said for the “smash & grab” lootings we’re reading about? Of course. But, does the pols’ “pandemic made me do it” excuse solve the problem, especially when there’s no end to the pandemic in sight … and, it’s going to take time to rebuild some of these foolishly gutted police departments?
