Paralyzed Highland Park Boy IS Courage
As an 8 yr-old paralyzed by that cowardly shooter in Highland Park still courageously fights for life we’re reminded the victims of such tragedies are the most compelling story, not the hopelessly crazed murderers.
Isn’t that why the Fox News story about Cooper Roberts’ “setback” after being shot during that July 4 parade jumps out at the reader & touches their hearts? Cooper, we’re told recently had a “set back” requiring emergency surgery after doctors traced an infection back to a tear in his esophagus. The youngster’s spine, you might recall, had been severed by a direct bullet hit & he had to be put on a ventilator when a lung collapsed. It was tough enough being told by grieving parents he was paralyzed from the waist down & would never walk again, then, that infection put him back on the “critical” list. If he can overcome all this, Cooper still faces more surgeries …
“He is in a great deal of pain – physically & emotionally,” a family spokesman said in a statement. As it happened, when Cooper first woke up in the hospital, the first thing he reportedly asked about was the safety of his twin brother Luke, who was hit by shrapnel during the shooting, but recovering at home. Cooper’s been in & out of consciousness & needs to be continuously sedated to relieve the excruciating pain. We know how that goes. But, we can’t imagine being as brave as this young fellow.
