Pius FDR Gets Pass For "Catholic's Holocaust"

Wa Po again castigates Pope Pius XII for his “silence” during the Holocaust, but lost in the VATICAN’S latest release of papers suggesting he knew of atrocities earlier than once believed is FDR’s failure to lift a finger ever …

Apparently forgotten is the 2020 Washington Post story noting how former Israeli prime minister Golda Meier “eulogized Pius upon his death in 1958 for raising his voice ‘when fearful martyrdom came to our people.’” Not that Pius did that much more than talk about Nazi war crimes, for which Polish Pope John Paul II would one day apologize to the Jewish people. But, does it matter as much WHEN Pius was in the know, as is now being suggested? This time, btw, it’s because of the Vatican archive’s publication of an anti-Nazi resistant Jesuit’s letter on Dec. 14, 1942 to a Papal advisor warning about Nazi “labor camps” really being “death factories.” Exactly how many troops did Pius have to do something about it? Does anyone really think Hitler would have blinked at a pious Pius sermon, whose Church along with other Christians, Bolsheviks & anyone not a pure Aryan was also being persecuted?

Meanwhile, what did the ALLIES with the 80 million soldiers it had under arms do to help the Poles & Jews being cremated at Auschwitz? True, the full extent of the horror wasn’t fully known until Gen. Eisenhower’s men liberated the hell hole toward the end of the war. But, does anyone really believe FDR’s U.S., Churchill’s Britain & Stalin’s Russia were that gullible or didn’t have similar warnings of Nazi atrocities unfolding under their noses? Whether forced labor or death camps, the Nazi camps dating to the beginning of the world war were obviously inhumane & a desecration of human rights. Wa Po at one time seemed to understand this. In 2013, it published Richard Cohen’s “The Holocaust: FDR’s indelible failure,” in which he reminds “It’s not that he did nothing, it’s that he [perhaps like Pius] did nothing much.”
