Polish Unity Fights Historical Discord
Poland’s massive Indy Day march honored “God, family & Fatherland” after a recent centrist election landslide. Can it now lead the West out of its globalist morass or will it slide back into the same tar pit?
As the Fox News story noted, “Poland Independence Day March [drew] tens of thousands in Warsaw amid recent tensions with Ukraine” & communist Russia it all too recently gained its freedom from. A senior editor for Human Events, we’re told, shared aerial footage of the Warsaw crowds on X aka Twitter. He opined: “Patriots took [to] the streets today … honoring God, Family & Fatherland … [which] is what the globalists seek to destroy.” Chimed in End Wokeness with its 1.8 million followers: “Hundreds of thousands take to the streets to celebrate their country. Is this what it’s like to live in a country that has borders and a national identity?”
Yet, all is not quiet on that Eastern Front. And, don’t necessarily conclude Poland’s politics are any less complex … or divided … than elsewhere. This year’s march, Fox said, also “comes amid recent tensions with Ukraine & the European Union over the handling of refugees, military aid & historical grudges and/or mistrusts. Football supporters held banners with far-right slogans while one group brought EU & LGBTQ flags to stomp on or burn. True, just last month, Polish voters overwhelmingly voted in centrist as well as moderate conservative and liberal parties after 8 yrs of rule by a nationalist conservative party. But, then, there’s those NATO & EU elephants in the Polish room since joining the military combine in 1999 and the economic & political group in 2004. Opinions have abounded, a consensus has been rare. The big question now may be whether a more unified & “moderate” Poland can become a bigger Western Influencer or continue to grope for answers like its inconsistent, confused allies?
