Pope: World Is Already In WW III

On eve of anniversary marking WW II’s outbreak, Pope Francis made the insightful take on current international conflicts, i.e., that the world is already in WW III &, unlike previous global wars, will be fought “piecemeal.”

As Fox News reported, Francis made the commentary during his usual general audience where he acknowledged the beginning of the “War to End All Wars” started when Nazi Germany “painfully” invaded Poland … and would eventually cost 5.2 million Polish lives. “May the memory of [such] past experiences urge you to cultivate peace in yourselves, in your families, in social and international life” the Pope declared.

As Vatican State Media explained, the Pope was saying the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, is only one “in a much larger geopolitical conflict.” What we’re witnessing all around the world, then, is not so much a repeat of history as a “new era” of nations and actors engaging in power struggles on a somewhat regular, if ad hoc and opportunistic basis.
