Portugal’s California Dreamin’ A Nightmare?

Fox says “Portuguese are angered at influx of Californians who import their problems with them” so what are all those commercials I’m getting from still urging Yankees to retire there? To get trashed as well as fleeced?

Don’t get me wrong. Much of Portugal is gorgeous, rich in history and arguably quite affordable for US retirees. And, maybe that Fox story about Californians bumming out the Portugeuese is a one off, considering that even many Californians bent on secession don’t consider themselves American let alone Yankees. Yet, a story in LA Times & other outlets loosely titled, “Welcome to Portugal, the new expat haven. Californians, please go home,” relates how Portuguese are upset by getting what they wished in that their American population has risen 45%. And worse, many are from California, who are driving up real estate values causing “gentrification” problems for their own, including “skyrocketing rents & evictions,” as well as bringing their bitching pro-open border immigration & Trumpian politics with them.

“You cannot deny that places like Lisbon have become much more appealing for young, creative people with money to spend. The effect on the economy and the way the buildings look – no longer empty – is astronomical,” one U of Lisbon Prof explained the LA Times. “But the average Portuguese person can no longer afford to live in the center of Lisbon. Rents have gone up five times over a few years ago. Even the basic things, such as buying groceries, take longer trips outside the city center than they used to.” Understood. And, then, there’s those insufferable California attitudes?
