Progressive Soup Finally Scolds Voters

Populist Trump returns as woke Trudeau exits & green obsessed EU tastes similar political rebellions. Has the global progressive movement finally peaked & in full retreat? Is traditional Western common sense & sensibility set to continue?

The WSJ piece declared, “The Progressive Moment in Global Politics Is Over,” thanks to a scary “weak economic growth & record immigration” that’s arguably driving a wave of “gains by the right, especially populists.” You can’t sum it up much better than this candid summary: “This past year showed that the progressive politics that dominated most industrialized countries over the past two decades or more is shifting to the right, fueled by working-class anxieties over the economy & immigration, and growing fatigue with issues form climate change to identity politics.” Maybe throw in disgust with the woke war on religion, realization that “science” & “medicine” ain’t as perfect as claimed, and rewriting of history as well as indoctrination of youths with some of the goofiest academic ideas a liberal think tank could come up with.

And, while the Trump & Trudeau shockers may be the most high-profile examples of the world’s return to the center-right, the WSJ reminds that the phenomena is happening right now across Europe, “where economic growth has largely stalled.” The result: “…conservatives & populist right-wing parties are making unprecedented gains [so that] three-quarters of governments in the European Union are either led by a right-of-center party or are ruled by a coalition that includes at least one.” It’s the excess and hubris that started the progressives’ comeuppance. Will their usual double & triple down tone deafness keep the demise going?
