Putin Plays Bush WMD Card, Devil In Details

Any wonder Putin in Victory Day speech blamed West plans to attack Russia rather than block its aggression ala Bush’s WMD canard? If we follow the $, we’d also see Russia’s traditional lust for Ukraine food grain, energy resources & easy access to the Crimea?

As reported in WSJ, “speaking in Red Square, the Kremlin leader insisted Russia was under threat from the West.” And, what exactly was that threat as if a President Bush listening to his deluded, if not incompetent, “intelligence” people? In Putin’s words: “The danger was growing day by day, so Russia gave a pre-emptive response to the aggression. It was forced, timely & only correct decision … We saw how military infrastructure was being developed, how hundreds of foreign advisers began to work, regular deliveries of the most modern weapons from NATO countries were occurring.”

Well, this familiar “devil made me do it” argument turned out to be bogus in the case of Saddam’s Iraq & is bogus in Russia now. The West has been consistently open about its DEFENSE against historical Russian expansionist plans dating all the way back to 1917. Not that Putin isn’t right about the West’s master plan to contain Russia ever since AND WITHOUT INVADING IT (i.e., save for the “White” armies in the Lenin Era). It just would be refreshing, if not mind-shattering, if a leader bent on invading another country would simply be honest about the “why” …
