Rabbis Duke It Out With American U DEI Programs
When Orthodox rabbis call on US universities to suspend their diversity programs for discrimination against their faith & persons, you know something smells in Mudville. Yet, that’s what’s happening as a coalition representing more than 2,000 Orthodox rabbis cites a report “showing DEI leaders often promote antisemitism”.
Managing Director of the Coalition for Jewish Values, Rabbi Yaakov Menken, told Fox News: “With antisemitism incidents rising at an alarming rate, using Israel as a convenient façade, universities must ensure their diversity efforts include protection of Jewish students … Instead, they have appointed foxes to guard the proverbial hen house.” While acknowledging DEI efforts pursue a “noble goal”, it hasn’t always born the intended fruit. He wants the DEI programs suspended pending a comprehensive review of how candidates are selected to staff positions” to make sure they don’t “promote antisemitic bias.”
As a for instance, says Fox, a Heritage study “examined the Twitter feeds of 741 DEI personnel at 65 universities, contrasting their public communications regarding Israel with those regarding China … 95% criticized the Jewish state, while 62%” were favorable to China. The Israel tweets often mentioned “apartheid” supposedly practiced by the state, but seldom China’s alleged human rights violations of minorities. In a recent specific instance, a group of rabbis condemned Duke University’s student government for an allegedly “despicable double standard on ‘Jew Hatred’” in refusing to recognize a pro-Israel student group.
