Rein In Bill More Than War On Inflation?

59 Dems voted with GOP on “Rein In” bill that would force any POTUS to assess an EO’s inflationary effect before issued. Shows bipartisanship still possible? But besides “inflation,” what about “legality” of those EOs?

BTW: The two parties are still miles apart on what’s causing the record inflation. Dems still insist it’s all the fault of Covid’s & Putin’s Ukraine invasion. While the GOP sees the main culprit as the government’s draconian lockdown mandates during the pandemic & massive spending sprees to supposedly soften the blows; and Republicans will toss in the Dems’ waging war on fossil fuels at all costs. So, why the sudden mutual support on this one issue? Perhaps the one unifier is fear. Not just of EOs like President Biden’s latest unilateral decision to by-pass Congress and “forgive” $430 billion in federal student loans with the stroke of his pen, but any future GOP president who might also use EOs to usurp Congress’s Constitutional responsibilities. Surely, the Dems recall challenging the legality of some of President Trump’s EOs regarding our broken immigration system and significant cutbacks in business regulations.

Yet, whatever the driver for Rein In, isn’t it good to see at least some Dems & GOPers agreeing on something? In this case, requiring any president to justify his EO if the cost is $1 billion or more? (The bill passed 272-148). After all, back in the old days the two parties seldom were in lockstep on most key issues, yet they more often than not found enough common ground to run the country in a way that’s consistent with the Constitution … and for the sake of its people.
