Saban Rattles Sabre vs NIL Greed
Well, quack me if I’m wrong, but Alabama’s Nick “Aflac” Saban appears to have laid a golden recruiting nugget by showing other NCAA Div I coaches how to tell 2 players looking for $1.3M combined in NIL money to go fly a kite …
While details are sketchy in the OutKick report, it’s believed one of the money-grubbing players is a starting offensive lineman who tried to relieve a serious amount of cash from the coach-turned-insurance company spokesman’s money-grubbing college. My. A starting offensive lineman. And, the other money grubber was a “top recruit,” presumably not a walk on? Coach Saban is said to have spilled the beans about his decision to let the two go at a state coaches conference this way: “One of the best [high school] corners in the nation came to me & asked if we’d pay ... $800,000 ... to sign here. I told him he can find another place to play … I’m not paying a kid a bunch of NIL money before he earns it.” So, how about the other kid, already on the team, who supposedly wanted $500K & for Saban to pay for his girlfriend’s attending law school? Fox News suggested he’s transferred to Miami, if without a Saban boot in his & friend's butts.
Saban, who generally supports the NIL “concept,” clearly thinks the NIL gravy train has already gotten “out of hand” & wants “NFL-like” guard rails like salary caps imposed to achieve some kind of “competitive balance”. Yo, Nick. If you create a thing that quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck and flies like a duck, what do you think you're gonna get? AFLAC!
